Who needs sleep? (Please help!)?

I have the hardest time falling asleep at night. It often takes me up to an hour to settle my body and my mind and fall asleep. I am a 23-year old college student studying Musical Theatre (graduating in May, thank God), and also planning my wedding (September), so I don’t doubt that stress is a factor.

Can anyone make any suggestions? At this point, I’m willing to try sleep aids, meditation, relaxation (not that I know how to relax anymore)… anything! Please help!
It’s a Musical Theatre performance major, dear. That means we’re constantly working on scene work, dialogues, stage combat, several forms of dance, music, music and more music, working on learning new songs, doing auditions all the time, and always, always performing, not to mention dealing with all of the regular math, english, history, etc classes of a college student. You can have no idea how stressful it is. And if you don’t have any constructive comments, keep your comments to yourself.

My sleep schedule has been much more on track since I started meditating. I also tend to need less sleep, which is great for a crazy schedule like it sounds like yours is. *smile*

I’d suggest checking out a local yoga studio, see if they have any meditation classes. Or just check out the yoga class, which I’ve found very meditative as well. Another option is to google meditation and listen to a guided meditation to help give you some ideas of what works best for you.

Good luck. Namaste. :)

Guided Meditation Sleep

how to meditate without sleeping?

how do I meditate without falling asleep every time? I have guided meditation recordings, but I fall asleep every night when I listen to the intro part. I know that I’m supposed to be in that ‘twilight’ state of mind but I can’t seem to stay there. Any ideas?
Thanks

The natural breathing pattern of a sleeping person is to inhale, exhale, pause at the bottom of the exhalation, then inhale again to start the cycle over. (The extreme of this is sleep apnea.)

If you want to help yourself stay awake, try breathing in this pattern: inhale, hold your breath for a short while (whatever is comfortable for you), exhale fully, then inhale and hold again to start the cycle over. Notice that this “waking breath pattern” is just the opposite of your natural sleeping breath pattern – which is why it helps you stay awake.

There is actually a very good method called Heart Rhythm Meditation which uses the breathing pattern I just suggested, along with sensing your heart beat. Check it out.

Has anyone tried binaural beats for meditation or producing delta waves?

I’m looking for a good inexpensive mp3 or cd I can get that will help me produce Delta brainwaves so I can get to sleep. I also want to use it for meditation purposes. Can anyone recommend and good links?

Hey cool, both our names are Brandon. I’m Brandon M. though. Close.

There are some really great mp3s out there to help you get to a delta state. One that comes to mind is a link my friend told me about. After 5 minutes of listening, I fell asleep.

You don’t have to buy anything, you could put yourself into a deep delta state just by meditating. However binaural beats and brainwave technology make it so much easier to produce certain states of awareness.

The link is down below if you want to check it out. I think it only costs like $9. Extremely inexpensive, but definately worth taking a look at.
