Future of Neurofeedback?

I’ve been reading about neurofeedback and am intrigued by its potential. By being able to train the brain to function better resulting it healthier brain waves and a natural ability to produce normal neurotransmitter levels, it could possibly replace many pharmaceutical drugs that have been essentially solving many mental problems through artificial means instead. My question is, does anyone see this technology eventually making its way into homes so that people can use it to exercise their brains just like any other part of their body, or is it destined to be provided solely by psychologists and neurologists in a outpatient format?

The potential to create a positive change by using this at home, especially with youth that already like to play video games and are in a state of developing their brains still, could be tremendous including with improving grades and social skills.

While it’s nice to envision the widespread use of neurofeedback in people’s homes, it’s unlikely to ever occur. This is primarily due to the potential for abuse. Just as neurofeedback can be used to treat some disorders, it can be used to create abnormal EEG patterns. This can result in harm to the individual. Without properly trained clinicians guiding the neurofeedback, it would be potentially dangerous.

Also, remember that there are limits to what neurofeedback can do. While it may adjust electrical activity in the brain, it is not necessarily treating the underlying causes of a behavior. A lot of current research in EEG technologies is more focused on using QEEG profiles as predictors for medication and therapy effectiveness rather than neurofeedback, which still lacks sufficient empirical support.

Biofeedback Training

Looking for a show about special forces soldiers who endure extreme conditions.?

i am teaching a high school Psychology class and we are talking about Biofeedback and learning to control physiological processes in your body. I have heard there was a show on Discover or TLC or the National Geographic Channel about special forces soldiers who were trained to endure extreme conditions. Has anyone heard of this show or know where I can find it?

I remember that. It was on the Military Channel

Show: Weaponology
Episode 9: Extreme Warriors
Extreme Warriors are trained to live and fight in the harshest environments known to man – exposed mountaintops, extreme altitude, sub-zero temperatures, snowstorms – these guys bring the pain in any terrain.

Biofeedback Pain

Do These Alternative Therapies Help Pain???

I have been taking pain medicines for Fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, degenerative disc disease, kyphosis and spondylosis. I am thinking of quitting seeing my current pain doctor and seeing a new one who practices alternative pain management.

She uses these therapies:
Biofeedback
Electronic Acupuncture
Nutrician
Quantum Healing
Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy

This new doctor told me she would prescribe the current medicines I am taking with the understanding I will be weanedd off of them as my body heals. Do you believe any of these new therapies can or do help?

Thank you.

They can certainly help heal the conditions that are causing the pain, which can help to reduce and/or eliminate the pain. I have heard from many people that they have gotten relief from many therapies like (and including) these. Good luck!
